Detailed Course Outline
This course provides a thorough exploration of Analog Electronics, from fundamental physics to complex amplifier circuits. For a complete topic list, view the full Course Outline here.
Chapter 1: Semiconductor Physics
This foundational chapter builds your understanding of the materials that make modern electronics possible. We will explore the differences between conductors, semiconductors, and insulators and delve into core concepts like drift current, diffusion current, and the Einstein relation that govern charge movement.
Chapter 2: Semiconductor Diode
Learn about the heart of the semiconductor world: the p-n junction. This chapter covers the theory behind diode operation in forward and reverse bias, the diode current equation, ideal vs. practical diodes, and the breakdown phenomenon. We will also analyze Zener diodes and crucial capacitance effects.
Chapter 3: Field Effect Transistors (FETs)
Move beyond diodes to another essential component: the transistor. This chapter introduces Field Effect Transistors (FETs), comparing them to BJTs. You will learn the construction and operation of various FET types, including the widely used MOSFETs (both enhancement and p-channel types).
Chapter 4: Diode Circuits
This chapter focuses on the practical application of diodes. You will learn to analyze and design fundamental circuits, including DC power supplies (half-wave, full-wave, and bridge rectifiers), filters (inductor, capacitor, LC), voltage regulators using Zener diodes, and signal-shaping circuits like clippers and voltage multipliers.
Chapter 5: BJT – Characteristics and Biasing
Discover the Bipolar Junction Transistor (BJT), a cornerstone of analog amplification. This chapter covers its current components, the Early effect, and a detailed analysis of its three main configurations: Common Base, Common-Emitter, and Common-Collector.
Chapter 6: Transistor Biasing and Thermal Stabilization
A transistor is only useful if it operates in a stable state. This chapter teaches you how to establish and maintain a proper DC operating point (Q-point). You will master various biasing circuits (Fixed, Self-Bias, Voltage-Divider) and learn critical techniques for thermal stabilization, including the current mirror circuits used in IC design.
Chapter 7: BJT as an Amplifier
Unlock the primary function of a BJT: amplification. This chapter covers the graphical analysis of BJT amplifiers and introduces powerful analytical tools like the hybrid model (h-parameters) and the small-signal hybrid-π equivalent circuit to analyze Common-Emitter, Common-Collector, and Common-Base amplifier configurations.
Chapter 8: Basic FET Amplifiers
Applying the principles from the previous chapter to FETs, you will learn to analyze the three basic FET amplifier configurations: Common-Source, Common-Drain (Source Follower), and Common-Gate. This will complete your understanding of single-stage transistor amplifiers.
Chapter 9: Operational Amplifier (Op-Amp)
Explore the Operational Amplifier, one of the most versatile building blocks in analog electronics. This chapter covers the ideal and practical characteristics of Op-Amps and their application in a vast range of circuits, including inverting and non-inverting amplifiers, summing amplifiers, integrators, differentiators, instrumentation amplifiers, and precision rectifiers.
